I figure this is my last chance to dress the girls in novelty twin costumes seeing all they want to be are princesses. So I figured I better make this Halloween count. I have honestly laughed myself sick while making these costumes. (Notice the taller tweedle and how her costume fits so comfortably through the crotch.)
Getting started was tricky.
Redo #1: I bought broadcloth. Dumb. To get the girth I needed 4 way stretch. So I ended up with a poly lyrca something.
Redo #2: Do not use a clown pattern. I figured if I cut it on the fold I could eliminate the center seams and cut only a top and bottom portion. The finished product could have fit the before photos from Biggest Loser. Instead I cut it down dramatically keeping the belly huge. Success.
Redo #3: Hula hoops are too flimsy to stand up the the pressure this costume requires. I did learn that hula hoops are filled with water though. Sprinkler hose works surprisingly well and was only a couple of dollars.
Although they both want the be tweedle dee, (and do you blame them? Tweedle dum? No thanks.) the costumes were a huge hit.
And just in case you wondered:
year 1- Thing 1 & Thing 2
year 2- Chinese Olympic gymnasts (remember the controversy over the gymnasts ages?)
year 3- Laverne & Shirley
It was nice while it lasted. Bring on the princesses.
I am thinking making these for my boys.
ReplyDeleteWhat pattern you used?
Did you actually cut sprinkler hose?
How did you make these red pants so puffy?
